NetherRealm Studios is keeping tight-lipped about its next project, although rumours have persisted for a while now that it’s a third stab at the Injustice series. That may very well be the case, as Injustice 3 could be the mysterious title that is being playtested in Calfornia.
To provide some more context, a post on Good Gamer Group, which provides DNA-protected testing services for publishers, featured a description for a mysterious project that is heavily believed to be related to NetherRealm. One of the descriptions mentions a “triple-A fighting game,” and a “major 2D fighting game.” The post was deleted but spotted by EventHubs and has been blowing up online ever since.
EventHubs notes that the title in question is almost certainly not Virtua Fighter Crossroads and Dead or Alive 7, as they are 3D brawlers.
The playtest is reportedly taking place in Culver City, California, which points to an American-based studio behind the project. If that wasn’t interesting enough, Warner Bros. Games, the parent company for NetherRealm, has its headquarters in that very same location. Nothing official has been confirmed yet, so keep that in mind.
This is far from the first time we’ve heard about injustice 3. Back in April this year, the game appeared on the resume of an artist working at Warner Bros. Games alongside a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, and prior to this, two prominent voice actors who worked on the franchise have strongly hinted that a third entry in the series is in the pipeline.
The most recent entry in the series, Injustice 2, launched for PS4, PC, and Xbox One in 2017, so it’s been nearly a decade since we’ve seen a new game.
