Sony releasing Lair review guide

Posted on September 8th, 2007 at 04:46 EDT

The PlayStation 3 exclusive title Lair has been subjected to a slew of negative press since its release last month, with reviewers specifically targeting the games Sixaxis motion sensing controls.

However, in a bid to give gamers and journalist a better understanding of the games content, Sony Computer Entertainment has announced it will be releasing a review guide, which aims to illustrate how to use the games controls more efficiently.

Julian Eggebrecht, President of developer Factor 5 believes that the reason journalists have criticised the control scheme is because, A) they are hardcore gamers and B) they simply dislike motion controls.

Indeed, with the review guide, Eggebrecht compels us to “Open your mind and hands for something very different!”

The guide further discusses detailed facts about Lair’s story, characters, and the different type of dragons that you will come into contact with and or ride. Over six pages out of the twenty-one are all devoted to Lair’s motion controls alone.

This review guide will hopefully aid gamers and journalists to understand the controls better if they were struggling from the start.

Stay tuned for more developments on Lair here at PSU as they break.

a played a lot of lair recently and let me tell you taht if you're any good at gaming, you'll find the game challenging, and keep particing until you're becoming very good with the controls. just 2 days and I was pretty good with it....so common give it a try the game great

This really should have come out before the game. Sort of like: "This title is very different, so read up on it before you judge." I feel this game was treated like an alien landing; people were quick to shoot it down out of fear because of the lack of understanding.

this is very good, and might get more people to buy the game. i still dont get how ign could give the game a 4, i did a personal review and gave it an 8.5 by averaging what i would give the game in the 5 categories. at this point for lair it just needs to sell well enough so they can make a lair 2, and from vgcharts it sold 93,000 in its first 3 days and that was when the game was only released at gamestop and eb games, so now its at all stores. in american it should sell like motorstorm and probably in the rest of the world too, which would be good.

If you have to explain how to use the controls for something as simple as movement, you have failed on the most basic level. 20 million down the drain for Sony. What a waste.

i really like the game and it should sell well despite reviews and this game did not cost 20 million it cost around 15 and with the fiirst week sales it bought back about 5.4 million so how is that money down the drain it came out for 3 days and only at onereailer.

bring us back Rumble, and forget that un-precise sixaxis. Instead, relase a Wii-Sport like games, with a wii-mote-like pad, and that is !!!, the PS3 become Wii-childish while being True HD (etc..etc. all the stuff you know about the PS3).THen relase some good games for the eye-toy, make Home the incredible thing I hope it wiil be.. and Great.

ugh...this makes me kind of embarrassed. What is Sony doing? They are letting me down with stupid things like this...w/e if they bring me all the good games I want then I  will forgive them.

Unecessary, people who couldn't use the controls after 10 minutes of playing need to practice some more on a wii, seriously, this game wasn't hard to learn how to play, and the devs shouldn't care about some bad reviews either, they're just reviews, and it's not like reviewers know how to make a  good review, the gave gears of war a good score, like c'mon.

Really now, this game is amazing and if you actually take the time to learn the controls it will show that its the most amazing game. it has a awesome story, the graphics are amazing and its a game that is different from any other game. Its amazing and brilliant! Factor 5 made a game that should be made game of the year, but people who dont want to take the time and actually have a challenge are week and dont see an amazing game when it shows up. its stupid how they think Halo and Gears are that great, personally ive seen a million FPS's and Lair changes that with its motion sensors and other things, its a game that takes away from all the FPS. If you go by reviews or dont like challenges than why are you gaming?. LAIR4GAMEOFTHEYEAR!
