Square Enix to sell FFXIII demo?

Key designer Tetsuya Nomura has hinted to Dengeki PlayStation magazine that Square Enix will charge for the upcoming PlayStation 3 demo of Final Fantasy XIII.
The demo will be packaged with the Blu-ray release of Final Fantasy Advent Children: Complete next March, as detailed at the company's DKS3173 event, but according to Nomura it will later be made available separately for a price. Square Enix has refused to comment on the interview.
Pretty shameless, if you ask us. In Square Enix's defence, the demo is said to be a whopping 90 minutes long.
Thanks to FinalFantasy-XIII.net for the translation.

i guess im one of the few who wouldnt mind paying for a demo. but i dont wanna b paying over $5 for it tho. ppl spend about the same amount of $ to make themselves fatter at Burger King, 90 good minutes of FFXIII shouldnt be so bad right ? lol i do want SE to get in a good finacial state, which im not sure they are at atm. i wonder if this is PSN or just seperate disk?

In PD's defense they didnt sell out to MS then foce people to pay for a demo. Plus GT5:P gets updates. GT5 is a long way away it might not come out until 2010 thats the only reason why i paid for GT5:P. FFXIII ill pass on that if it comes on qore then np because i have the subscription.

I hate the idea to pay for demos, but really, Versus has a point. if it is a 90 min long demo then hey, it's more like a prologue or something anyway. And besides, they haven't said what it'll cost, if it's really cheap then I'll buy it no doubt, if not, well... Then I'll read all I can about the demo to find out if it's big enough, if it's worth the money

@versus you caparison dont make since 1.dont know how much the demo alone will cast yet so how can you say that. 2. nothing in burger king cost more then $10. so in other words paying for a demo is just crazy no matter how much it cost. well me a few dollars wont hurt my pockets i just know i wont be buying the demo alonmagsecUK said it best been waiting this long for FF XIII why pay for a demo when you can wait and buy the full game.
now SE should be a shame of there self, first multiplatere big announcement turned out to be a crappy demo. now they want us to pay for a demo if we dont buy there new movie. the more and more SE open there mouth about FF XIII the more and more i'm thinking of not buying it. i swera SE is dropping the ball this gen with FF on the PS3. FF XIII better worth and out shine all the problems it had just for it to be release on PS3. another thing they're getting over on us they really wont us to pay twice for one game. they better give a vocher pass for a discount on FF XIII VERSUS for those who buy the demo.

Man, it really sounds as if SE is slowly being Americanized judging from all these bad news stories lately. And after the payout from immersion to m$ regarding Sonys use of force feedback, I believe anything's possible with this company(SE). It would not surprise me in the least if m$ were behind a stunt like this because they would do ANYTHING to keep JRPGs off of American PS3s. They lost in Japan, losing and/or lost in Europe, so they need to keep the U.S.for themselves otherwise they're finished. This is why there are no good JRPGs in the states.

Spore demo cost 10$, GT5P cost what like 40$? Granted GT5P is a VERY big demo but it's just a demo none the less. Not really a problem for me, especially if a demo like this will be an hour and a friggin half long. That's worth the 10-20$ it'll cost to me.

no way!!!....... first they go off and join MS(no more exclusive). then they delay the ps3 siting the xbox version needs to be ported(xbox pulling the ps3 down). and now they want us to pay for a demo(SE becoming like MS). SE has dug a hole, jumped in it and buried them selves.
this wont be a buy for me. i dont want to buy stuff from a company who is unloyal to its customers.Thats one on the many reasons i stay with sony, they are more loyal to thier customers(free onlineness, home remaining FREE :) etc.)

SE sure is making good money from all there FF 7 remakes and FF DS games and FF PSP games and all there other hundreds of FF games. and now they want people to pay for a demo that's maybe like markwesker said (post #31) is 90 minutes of cut scenes but SE wont give a sh...t about other people complaning since it know's it has its FF fans in it's pokets.

Wow, looks like the majority is jumping to conclusions. Yes, IF the demo is pay-to-demo, then that sucks. Tetsuya Nomura is a designer, not sure what kind he is, but I doubt he's in the field with respects to orchestrating the company's wallet. He is simply stating the company is looking at POTENTIALLY introducing a pay-to-demo copy minus the movie. From a business point of view, this makes sense to recapture lost investments. For those of you who hate this idea, support the company and encourage your friends/coworkers to purchase the PS3 version only. Only then will the company see they can keep their exclusive nature and continue to pay their gifted, or not-so-gifted employees, designers, game creators, etc.
And for those of you in America, like myself, blame corporate America if you dislike X360. Make sure to vote, if you are of voting age, for a candidate that'll help diminish corporate America's returns so that companies like Microsoft do not have the dough to entice and pay of others. (I've yet to see proof of this...anyone care to provide a link...I haven't looked for it either... >.>.... I'm lazy...)

Square enix really has gone down the list of my favorite devolopers over the last month or two. Until I got my ps3, the only games I played on consoles were final fantasy games. I only bought about 10 games on my ps2 and two of them were final fantasy x and xii. Then I got my ps3 and have loved every minute of owning it. I have completely moved away from pc gaming for the moment, (I already own more ps3 games than I have ever owned on ps2) but this just pisses me off. I have bought every final fantasy since final fantasy seven, all of them (except 11 have been on playstation). I have been a loyal final fantasy fan ever since I played my favorite game of all time ff vii. My consoles of choice have always been playstation, and I thought they were squares too. Then they go and announce all these titles going to the 360 with one of them which is, unless I am mistaken, going to be a 360 exclusive (I'm not sure on that, I only follow the final fantasy series of squares). But the announcement of final fantasy xiii going to xbox seemed to me to be a big betrayal to all us fans and to sony. But then they go and tease us ps3 fans with a statement that there will be a HUGE announcement to make us happy, and it turns out to be a demo. WOW! That's huge! Not really, but it was something. Now they say they are going to charge for it. Come on square enix, what are you trying to do, make us all hate you? Becasue judging by a lot of the comments here it is really working! If they want to make it up to us they better remake final fantasy vii and better make it an exclusive. That is the only thing in my mind that will even close to make good on this. I will get the demo but only because I am buying the advent children blu ray. I have been looking forward to that for a long time. But I guarantee you that I would not pay for just a demo. Not even if it was a dollar. It is the principal of the matter. Square enix is taking the biggest fattest dump on us final fantasy and sony fans.
