Square promises to release FFXIII in 2008

Okay, so let’s just cut to the chase. Entering into 2008, the question that was on many PlayStation 3 owners’ mind was whether or not Final Fantasy XIII would be released in 2008.
For the Japanese, the answer to that may be closer to what they want to hear, while for European/North Americans, fear of it slipping into 2009 was a clear belief. Now both sides should feel a bit of reassurance as Square-Enix promises that FFXIII will release in 2008.
Final Fantasy XIII character designer, Testuya Nomura, has commented that the Fabula Nova Crystallis collection will be coming shortly. He promised that the game would receive a 2008 release date (Whether this is Japan or all regions are still unknown). He also hints at a possible playable demo of FFXIII on the PlayStation Network before the release.
Now whether or not Mr. Nomura truly believes this or is he just pulling a PR stunt remains to be unknown. For now though, patience is the best policy. For PS3 owners, the year 2008 clearly has an ample amount of content to offer from what we’ve seen, so our wait for a Final Fantasy game shouldn’t be that hard.
Not to mention that in March, Final Fantasy VII: Crysis Core for the PSP finally hits North American shores.

This is just an amazing year for the ps3. This is MY MOST WANTED GAME EVER! So much coming out and DMC4 is just getting ready to kick start it all. (Burnout Paradise was just an appetizer).
Glad they'll be releasing a lot of info this year on FFXIII and wonder if this is just for a Japanese release or US/PAL too?

kh3 (dont know the new franchise name) will hopefully be late 09 and hopefully versus should come sometime next march, and if the engine is truly complete and both teams have worked with it, it will be like insomaniac and take like a year to make 1 game

So lemme run this back... Haze delayed, Metal Gear delayed, FFXIII doesn't come out until maybe end of the year, GT Prologue until mid year, Little Big Planet until 2009, Home = nobody knows, Killzone 2 = no release date, DMC4 multiplatform, GTA4 has more content on the 360... I love SONY but damn man as much as we all say things are looking up, I don't see anything really good yet.

Personally guys, I think this is a bad thing. Let me explain why (ducks!) Every final fantasy has had a long development cycle. This in turn I think enables them to implement alot of features they wouldnt normally be able to do because of time restraints. Final Fantasy XII had almost five years development time and it shows in the game. The game is huge in scope, its very engrossing, and seems to never end. In fact I still haven't beaten it yet! That I think is awesome that a game encompasses that much entertainment in one medium. I think with Final Fantasy XIII coming out so soon, it will be very short and flashy. IMO

this is not true, nomura was not even interviewed, it was toriyama and he stated nothing of a release in 08'. He said they will try to release a demo, never said anything about a release date, let alone a estimated release for japan. I dare someone to prove me wrong

"After the new Famitsu scans were released, we got the exciting news that Toriyama is hoping to give the fans a glimpse of the game in the form of a demo sometime this year. He also stated that 2008 will be the year that we finally get solid details on Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
Somehow down the line this is been misinterpreted by many game sites, specifically Joystiq, that Tetsuya Nomura (Character designer) has promised the game will release in 2008. This, infact, is rather wrong. First, it's isnt even Nomura speaking, it's Motomu Toriyama, the games director. Instead he says that he hopes he can show the public a demo of Final Fantasy XIII this year. This is neither a promise or a release date. Another site Gamernode also makes an even worse mistake by publishing that Nomura stated this in an interview with Joystiq, which again is wrong because all the information comes from the new Famitsu scans.
Joystiq go on to say that Nomura has also promised a demo for the Playstation Network "a while before the games release", which is also false. Again, Nomura isn't even mentioned in the article and the Playstation Network isn't mentioned once. There might well be a demo on the Playstation Network at some point, but this article certainly does not confirm it for this year.
This has of course lead to "FFXIII IN 2008 OFFICIAL CONFIRMED!!" and "PSN DEMO OF FFXIII CONFIRMED!" which is going to leave a lot of people disapointed. as much as I want it be released in 08', it won't happen. besides the false info given here, they released next to nothing as far as info goes on the game, they already anounced that it will not happen this fiscal year so they push the date passed march already, then you have to put in the fact that the game needs translating, that process right there takes 2 to 3 month at best. unless they did future planning (though I doubt it, but knowing this company I won't say it can't happen) the earliest it can be released is winter 08'

@ # 26, they have checked their sources, obviously this is NEW news which means it doesnt matter what dates other sites had set, no one knew when it was gonna be released but now he says it will be released in 2008.

sure that sounds great and all, but what happens when they cut out some parts and leave some stuff less than planned because they made this deadline for themselves? id rather them break the promise and make sure the game is completed. IF they can get everything done on time and completed, itll be a great acomplisment
