Tomb Raider dev wishes more time was spent on Underworld

Former Crystal Dynamics employee Eric Lindstorm has expressed regret that the developer failed to spend more to polishing Tomb Raider: Underworld, after sales of the game fell short of expectations.
Lindstorm, who was one of 30 staff at Crystal Dynamics recently laid off due to the underperformance of several ‘triple-A’ titles at retail, said on the Official Tomb Raider forums:
“I absolutely wish we could have spent more time polishing Underworld,” he said, adding, “I take my share of responsibility of aiming so high that we had a reduced ability to spend time on polish.”
In related news, publisher Eidos said earlier this morning that the long running franchise will likely endure a complete reboot for the next instalment, looking to Batman’s cinematic overhaul with The Dark Knight as an example.
“We need to look at everything, as we develop the next game,” said CFO, Robert Brent.
“Look at how Batman changed successfully, from the rather sad character of the Michael Keaton era to the noir style of The Dark Knight.”

i ve played one of the early psone tomb raiders but nowadays, not even the lara croft(s) can interest me in picking up a tomb raider game, knowing full well that Uncharted 2 will probably be way better...

Are they seriously thinking about making another installment? I think they've milked this franchise as far as they could. They should end this for a few years and make something different. Note that there was a huge gap between the original batman and the new Dark Knight. Sometimes people need a break for a while because the idea gets boring.

How different can you make a game about raiding tombs? Didn't they try that with Angel of Darkness, n look how that turned out. What can they do, Tomb Raider Karting?

batman begins was boring, we don't want three hours of lara talking. Batman Forever and Batman and Robin were sad. Anyway Tim Burtons Batman films used a noir style first. If its more like The Dark Knight than Batman Begins i'll be happy. Anyway tomb raider underworld is not a triple A game, its not cod4 or uncharted is it ?

Yeah, bury this games its dead. And refine your future games, otherwise you will have poor retail results. I thought about picking this game but after reseaching the net, I decided it was a very poorly developed game. So in short I hope you guy don't screw yourself.

The problem is that people now just assosciate tomb raider with crapness.Rather than re-inventing the series and calling it tomb raider, they should use whatever plans they have and make into a totally new game with a different name.IMO new games get far more attention than sequels.

i have no clue what to say ,i mean this game is great, and such words might keep a distance between buyers and tomb raider underworld, however considering previous parts of the franchise this game should have been better, yet it still rocks,i mean have you checked the graphics,i bought this game after a day of the release date ,and i have no regrets,it`s awesome.

"sighs" just let lara die already.......... it's sad how the tomb raider series turned out to be like this just like NFS series. It's not like Metal Gear Solid. Kojima is probably already thinking of a new series in metal gear solid. MGS is an awesome game and you'll never get tired of the series, Tomb Raider on the other hand is so boring. after awhile. even though lara croft is hot for an animated chick

I wish Eidos and these developers would stop blaming each other and different reasons and what they should have done wrong just so they could get more sales. 1.5 million is a lot for a first-week game.. probebly not as many as a Tomb Raider game "should have", but so what? If they did anything wrong they released it too late and in a crowded calendar. Its still on my "to buy" list, but was pushed to the back because of other "triple-A" titles. So what.

The only way to climb their way back to the top is to do a TombRaider:Stripclub - Miss croft down on her luck becomes a stripper - Leisure Suit Lara - anyone?
Seriously though, the brand has been flogged to death. Uncharted stole the only direction they probably could have gone. Not sure how Eidos will survive with Uncharted2 coming to our consoles.
Would help if their official website was compatible with Firefox, that's a sign to me that they have no way of making anything worth having

I like the The New Tomb Raider game, but I agree it needs to be overhauled. As for saying Michael Keaton's Batman was sad. Come on! Michael Keaton was the best Batman until they start puting in Val Kilmer & George Clooney. Thank god for Christian Bale and making the Batman as it should be like the First Movie, Dark like the Comic books.
