Activision and Logitech have announced a collaboration to develop and market premium instrument controllers for Guitar Hero World Tour.

No instruments have been specified, but it's speculated that they will provide new guitars as well as a drum set which will seek to rival the high-end Rock Band 2 drum kit.

“Logitech is the leading producer of peripheral devices and the company is widely considered to be the gold standard for innovation and quality peripheral products,” said Charles Huang, vice president business development for RedOctane. “With Logitech, we know we have found the right partner who can deliver top-quality premium hardware that consumers have come to expect from Guitar Hero.”

“As huge fans of Guitar Hero, we are very excited about the opportunity to bring the Logitech experience to the Guitar Hero franchise,” said Bruce Lancaster, vice president and general manager of Logitech’s gaming business. “A few years ago, Logitech refined the consumer steering wheel market with high-end controllers that enhance racing games. Now we are looking forward to elevating the market for premium music-based video game controllers in a similar fashion.”

The Guitar Hero: World Tour "Band Kit" is set to release on October 27 for $189.99.

    I don't think it will.

    Anyway, this gives me some incentive to by GH:WT, and just get the Logitech guitar.

    the Rock Band 2 ION Premium drum kit is sick! for inspiring drummers...its definitely worth the $300! But if GH can really spawn a true high-end super high quality electronic drum kit of the gods!...then i might reconsider the ION.

    Be smart ppl, get only the instruments yal really need. Dont buy both full packs. No way in heII are we gonna buy 2 drums, 2 guitars and 2 mics. Just get what ya need. Like me...im just getting one godly premium drum kit, RB2, GH4, and GH4's new guitar. thats it.

     @algonath

    yaa that was what i was thinkin...I have rock band and have bought like 40 dlc songs.  im a pretty decent expeert drummer as well and that is why i will be forking over 300 for the ion drum kit.  Im just hoping that the drum kit is compatible with both games as i want rock band 2 because im used to it and i have tons of dlc but i want gh4 for the song creation and also a whole new tracklist..  But i refuse to buy 2 diff full sets at 189 a pop.  So ya just buy the ion drum rocker rock band 2 disc and guitar hero 4 disc for a nice little price of around just over 400 depending how much the disc is by itself.  But please god let the ion drum set be compatible with both

    amen to that. And the ION is compatible with RB1, RB2, ALL DLC, mostly likely RB3, and its a stand-alone electronic drum kit for rocking real time.  I dont think the ION would work on GH4. But a patch is possible, just like what happen when Harmonix made a patch to let RB owners to use their GH3 guitars. Who knows. Maybe Activition would be generous this time.

     Wow, Activision copying Harmonix once again. (As in having a third party make "premium" instruments for them.)
