Resident Evil 5 requires 5 GB install

We have some bad news for all the 40 GB PlayStation 3 owners out there. Prepare to have 5 GB of storage free if you plan on picking up Resident Evil 5 this March.
According to the official PS3 box art, the game will require at least 5000 MB of storage space. The box also reveals that the PS3 version has a max resolution of 720p.

As this isn't the first title to ask for hefty hard disk space, it's probably just safe to say that PS3 owners just need to upgrade hard drives. For near the price of a game, PS3 owners can upgrade to a decent 160 GB hard drive.

How is it possible that the PS3 having a HDD standard is now becoming a bad thing?

I'm just not that excited about RE. I'd love to fight zombies, but 3rd person...ehhh. I love the coop idea, but I think I'll wait to hear some reviews and what my friends think about it before buying. Killzone 2, that's the game I want :)

Lol right on RagingStorm. Everyone's right though for less than 100 dollars you can upgrade to a very good amount of space. For all of those who said they were getting it on 360, those things break all the time (like mine just did). I can't risk not being able to play this because of shoddy "mass failure" hardware. Never again kids.

I'm already out of room on my 60 GB- I've been deleting old game installs to put new ones on and almost all my video content is on a removeable HD (sloppy) . Luckily, RE5 will be out after my taxes are back, so I'll be upgrading HUGE before it hits. I'll have to delete something to install the demo this Thursday, though- it's almost 1 GB in Japan, which means I'll need 2 GB for the demo installation... :(

@ Kasi7
No install on K2- though I've read that there are short hiccups every now and then when the game loads, so an install option might've been the way to go...
(sorry if this is a double post- the first one isn't showing up)

To everyone who said "who cares, just upgrade your harddrive" why should I have to...?!
The thing that annoys me the most is that ALL the multi-platform games that need installs on PS3 run PERFECTLY off the disc on 360, what is going on with that?!
Sony need to tell these lazy developers to sort it out, how does KZ2 not need an install when it's the most graphically impressive game EVER, yet Top Spin 3 needs 4.5GB?!
That is why I buy all multi-platform titles for 360 and my poor old PS only gets dusted down for exclusives...

Do people here even understand what 5GB of space is? You only have about 80, 60, 40, 20 or even 10 GBs of space free on a HDD standard PS3 which is perfectly fine to fit on the ps3 but you will get it for the 360??? No, if 5GB dont fit then i need to upgrade to a bigger HDD cus 360 can go to he11.

Why is everyone getting it for the 360 now. It's 5GB big deal, you play it beat it, then just delete the file when you don't need the game save anymore. This game doesn't have TOO much replay value, so you won't need the save file. Resident Evil was orginally on the Playstation, just buy it for the PS3.

I was gonna get this for PS3 but than I see a lot of reasons why the 360 version is better. You can go up to 1080p on it and according to gamestop PS3 only gets up to 720p. 5 GB is a lot because I already own MGS4 and Bioshock and on the 360 me and my brother can unlock achievements at the same time. On the PS3 I bet only first player will be able to. Sony needs to fix that because it is very annoying how 2nd player doesn't get trophies.

@38
Please remember that the Xbox360 UP CONVERTS their games to 1080p. The PS3 does not do this. Which is the reason why the PS3 version will not be displayed at 1080p.
In order for any PS3 game to display in 1080p, it has be developed in 1080p. It's not the Sony/PS3's fault. It's the developer who chose not to develop the game at the highest Res possible.

Wow a lot of people are complaining saying why should they have to buy more memory to permanetly fix a problem, but say they are getting the 360 version instead. They don't seem to be complaining about the inevitable red ring of death and the constant sending it in to be fixed and eventually buying a new one only to have to eventually get that one fixed again etc etc. Repeat process until you want to kill yourself....I know from personal experience. That's way more annoying than a cheap new HD and a 6 min installation that a child could figure out.

/sigh
Both the PS3 and 360 versions run max at 720p, Sony doesn't false advertise like M$ does because M$ puts 1080p for anything that can be upscaled, which is basically EVERYTHING. PS3 games can be upscaled too, it just depends on the TV, but Sony doesn't false advertise this trash.
