Sledgehammer Games developing 'action/adventure' CoD title

Activision has revealed that the newly formed Sledgehammer Games is currently working on an ‘action-adventure’ entry in the Call of Duty franchise, as well as confirming that a second new title is also in the works for release in 2011.

Speaking in a press release issued over night, the mega publisher commented, "The company is also for the first time announcing that a new game in the Call of Duty series is expected to be released in 2011 and that Sledgehammer Games, a newly formed, wholly owned studio, is in development on a Call of Duty game that will extend the franchise into the action-adventure genre.”

For those unaware, Sledgehammer is headed by Glen A. Schofield and Michael Condrey, who previously worked on EA survival horror romp, Dead Space. Furthermore, just in case any of you were wondering, the Sledgehammer CoD title and the 2011 title are indeed separate games, as detailed in a memo by Activision bigwig, Mike Griffith.

"2010 is expected to be another big year for Call of Duty," wrote Griffith, "with Treyarch developing a new title for fall release, Infinity Ward's downloadable content for Modern Warfare 2 in the works now, and a new Call of Duty title expected to be released in 2011."

"In addition, Sledgehammer Games is in development on a Call of Duty title in the action-adventure genre. It's an exciting time and it's the right time to ensure the appropriate resources are there to support Call of Duty's growth,” he added.

Maybe we’re being a bit optimistic, but we’d love to see a game based around the past antics of Ghost or the legendary Captain Price. How about the rest of you? Let us know in the comments section below.

So two of the senior COD team (the president and the CEO http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/gaming/activision-forms-new-call-of-duty-unit-1915214.html) get the boot by activision on the same day activision announces yet another third party team will churn out another COD game.

My take on this is that the Infinity ward guys were hacked off with activision turning their franchise into a cash-cow, didn't want downloadable content and more crappy COD games by other groups (Treyarch, can you hear me? You're games are a pale imitation). So they spoke up an get the book.

I'll bet you $$$ that most of the Infinity Ward team walk from Activision and form a new startup. And I'd bet an extra $ that one of M$/Sony will throw bucket loads of cash their way to make them an exclusive development partner - too much of a coup to miss.

Watch this space, you read it here first - I really should work for PSU.com shouldn't I!

The only thing that makes me remotely happy about that announcement is:

    "In addition..."

I read it as we are not interuppting the IW & Treyarch cycle but it is surplus, so released whenever.

they  oughtta just make a full game of the nazi zombies mode. id be more interested in a sweet full sized zombie game than just another improved modern warfare. i want to see COD: NAZI ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE.

I agree with 9... Except, Sony will say, they should WANT to be exclusive with us... MS will be like.... Here is $10 mill.... Then they will turn it into another HALO... the only thing outstanding on their console, and make people wait in line and put up with their rushed systems and such just to play that one game....

Treyarch are the onyl ones that make good CoD games anymore anyway so those will be the only ones I look at. MW2 is trash WAW is much better and more realistic. This A&A CoD probably will be terrible but over half the fools here will buy it cuz its called CoD

Really why do we need 1,000 people making cod games why doesnt it be like any other game that has 1 owner

p.s. i'd like to see a cod game that is virtually impossible to be a noob like MAG theres no way to be a noob in that game   MW2= TO MANY NOOBS!!

Did Activision do any research as to whether or not the gaming public would be interested in an action-adventure COD/MW style of game? Judging by the comments I just read, and based on my opinion of the idea - it will be moderately succesful, if that. With WAW being put out by Treyarch this fall, and DLC for MW2 it any new endeavor my Activision will surely be overlooked. (I personally am disappointed with MW2, even though my k/d is 1.47 - why isn't there a straight deathmatch mode without killstreaks? BC2 anyone? :D)
