PS Move Star Wars would be "damn better" than Kinect game, says Mikhailov

Sony America R&D chap Anton Mikhailov has tossed fresh mud in the direction of rival Microsoft over its planned Star Wars Kinect title, claiming “there’s no way” the tech could ever deliver a robust lightsaber experience.

The engineer didn’t mince his words during a chinwag with the chaps at Eurogamer this week, stating a PlayStation Move-compatible Star Wars romp would be far superior to Kinect’s planned Christmas 2011 title.

“I’m usually not very aggressive, but I will say it’ll [Move's Star Wars game] be damn better than Kinect could ever do,” he commented.

“There’s no way Kinect can do a good lightsaber game. Just never. Unless they give you a stick. If they give you a stick then they can do OK, but then they’re going to ruin their whole no controller motto.”

“I’ve seen the demo but it’s so scripted, and wasn’t it like, faked?”

He refused to budge, however, when pushed as to whether or not a Star Wars Move title was currently in the works: “I’m not in the product planning division so unfortunately I can’t tell you much more about that. But technologically it’s 100 per cent feasible.”

    I agree with this guy completely. If Lucasarts had any idea what they were doing they would go for it. Maybe even try to do Metal Gear Solid Rising style dismemberment. Also, it was extremely obvious that the Kinect Star Wars demo was a fake.

    While anti-kinect stuff coming out of Sony isn't really what most of us want to see Sony concentrating any of their efforts on, to be brutally honest, what they are saying here & eg more comedically on yaybuttons.com, is all valid stuff. Kinect will not offer any new gameplay experiences of real substance or real new gameplay mechanics above and beyond what EyeToy has already been able to offer... and IMO it deserves a similar commercial success. Microsoft gimped their hardware, have an unrealistic price point with no budget entry-level and have tied their own hands with there

    @2

    I agree with you.  While the points may be valid, it seems as if Sony if starting to sink to Microsoft's level.  Maybe they feel it is necessary in the US market.

    @1,2,3 Don't judge a product by it's cover. The Kinent is a wonderful piece of kit and a Star wars game would work extremely well. I disagree with this article. I think that which ever star wars game ends up on whatever platform will be great. So my message to you PS3 fanboys is this STFU. Oh and one last thing @1 it's don't all about MG crap

    So it's deff coming to xbox 360, but "maybe" to ps3! do they know that there are alot of star wars fan on ps3? Any, a light saber game with move should be insane, especially with the unmatched precision of the move but I'm a bit septic about using the "force" with move, on this part I think kinect will have the upper hand, but that's only if they get around the lag kinect has!

    Couldn't agree more with him. PS Move was made for a Star Wars game, no doubt about it ! it even feels like you're holding a lightsaber...

     What's the expression about stones and glass houses.  Come on Sony, you did the same thing boasting about GT5 and it's only an 86 on Metcritic compared to Forza's 92.

    @4 and @8

    Why is it that you xbot fanboys come to a Playstation site to troll?  Are your lives really so empty?  I feel sorry for you.

    @2, Sony aren't 'starting' anything, they were pulling this kind of crap back in 2004 with 'xbox1.5' and haven't let up since.

    The guy has a point, a Kinect game will have to be developed for Kinect, whereas he suggests Sony will make a traditional Star Wars game and tack Move controls onto it. The latter lends itself more to the style of game we're used to, not just an on-rails experience.

    LMAO @4&8 @4 Your right Kinect is wonderful kit, back in 2005 when it was spelled KINETIC. If the game looks anything like that E3 demo, then you and the other idiots can flop y'all bodies around to move, and swing your arms at an invisible pinata.

    @8 GT5 have a 86 on Metcritic already and the game just came out yesterday. 86 on Metcritic for a game that came out yesterday, is as good as a game that been on the market for 3-4 years.

    @4 disagree. kinnect feels awkward and out of place. a star wars game on move would be much more familiar and logical

    Can someone please tell me how you would be able to walk and move your character in a Star Wars Kinect game? Would the game come with a treadmill or something?

     not to mention you can't rotate yourself around with the Kinect, it's all on a 2D plane.

     @ 14

    Actually it's the PSeye that sees in a 2D plain, the Move then provides one reference in 3D space.  Kinect floods the room using it's Infra Red transmitter and then ascertains the players position and orientation in 3D space using it's IR receiver.

    Lets be honest people: Motion Controls are doomed for the casual gamers. Who cares about this? There's gonna be like, 3 games that come out for the more hardcore players.

    I was wondering the same thing. How would you move a character to a next level in Star Wars Kinect game?
    Besides i wouldn't wanna play empty handed pretending to swing a lightsaber and just as a thought but with the move button you could also add the animation off the laser beam poppin out.

    A Star Wars move game would be awesome. I could see it playing like Red Steel 2 but with lightsabers.

    I mean, the guy is right.  IF they use a stick with Kinect then it's okay, but Move would be a way better choice for a Star Wars game.  In fact, I hope the next Battlefront has Move support.

    @15

    Do you not understand that this is the comments section, where PlayStation enthusiasts also express their opinions?  At least when it's not some xbot trolling for a flame war on a PlayStation site.  Also, what the heck are you talking about with @11 and looking up the word "your"?  Are you sure you even referenced the correct comment?  Perhaps you should take your own advice and use your head, because your comment made you look like both an idiot and a moron.  Nice job!

     Yeah, I thought this was a Playstation fansite. Where DO these Xbox trolls come from?
