The nominees for Best New IP of 2010 are…
And the winner is…
Among the sea of threes, fives and 2K11s released this year, a few fresh faces showed up. Several were brilliant, but only one, Quantic Dream’s contemplative Heavy Rain, redefined what games are now and could be in the years to come. Imperfect, even heavily flawed, Heavy Rain’s "Interactive Drama" still did many, many things right. It featured a host of brilliant human performances, all the while allowing for unique manipulation and perception of its characters. David Cage’s story is deep and dark, and though it’s a tad less dynamic than many had hoped, the journey through it is truly unparalleled. For its host of new ideas and stirring stories, we award Heavy Rain our Best New Intellectual Property Award of 2010.
And the Community Award goes to…
Heavy Rain washed away the competition for Best New IP, swallowing a sizable 68.6% of the users’ votes in the category. The stylish, sexy, and sometimes plain silly Bayonetta came in next with 11.4%. Sony’s ModNation Racers played, created, and shared all 8.6% of its votes. Vigil Games’ Darksiders swooped into the #4 spot with 6.7%, leaving Ninja Theory’s Enslaved to play catch-up with 4.8% of votes.
