Give PlayStation Home another chance, says Sony

Sony’s urged PlayStation 3 owners who have long since vacated Home to pop back indoors and give the sprawling virtual abode another shot.
Chatting with Develop, platform director Peter Edward observed that the social networking platform has come “leaps and bounds” since its rather bare bones launch just over two years ago.
"It is a force to be reckoned with,” said Edward.
"I hear all the time 'I logged on when it first launched but there was nothing there' - but I urge people to go back on there. It's been two years. We were always very proud of what we had achieved for launch, but we're the first to admit it was basic back then.”
These days things are another kettle of fish altogether, Edward added, with Home boasting a myriad of fresh content and games to tuck into.
"Two years down the line it has come on in leaps and bounds, is vibrant, full of cool content and great games to play," he added. "It's free - those who aren't going in there are really missing out. If you think Home is what it was two years ago, do yourself a favour and have another look, you won't be disappointed."
PlayStation Home launched back in December 2008 and has racked up an impressive 17 million users globally.

I don't know, the problem I see is it takes too long to download new places to go and you cannot do background download if I recall correctly; and it sucks to download some place just to go in and find out there's really nothing interesting... I guess these places need to be more interactive. I visited the AC zone and there was really nothing to do there.

the thing is the games just arent fun. They are like simple flash games. I do like to explore but when that is over I need something else to do. chatting whether text or voice isnt my thing with everyone there. I have all my great psn friends already online playing other games. All the games I own I would rather be playing or hanging out in a video chat.

Home was awesome but now its just the same old stuff. Back in 2008 and 2009 it was awesome when they were adding tons of new spaces, but now they are slowing down on adding spaces. Needs a major update. I still go on frequently to chat with friends and whatnot, since thats what it was created for, its not an FPS like some people were expecting................

Home is waste of resources. If sony implemented and intergrated it better within the PS3 from launch things might be different. Last time i went in it was relly boring... it wouldnt call it "sociable" but maybe thats just me.
To many, "home" is an icon that sits on the XMB, nothing more.

i agree completely with the first comment. it wasnt necessarily the lack of content that bothered me, it was how long to access the stuff that was there. i dropped back in about a year ago and even then everything took forever to access.

It just needs to be more interactive IMO.
Simple things would make it better like being able to pick up say a rock and throw it to the water; that was just an example, of course it needs a lot more than that.I know it's not supposed to be a game, but that doesn't mean it cannot have game features. Wouldn't it be awesome if you could get a gun and shoot at cans or street lights like on Splinter Cell.
Maybe be able to pull pranks on other avatars, I don't know, Sony needs to use their imagination on this. It also sucks they sell most customization stuff; it would make more sense if you would get awards from games that you could then exchange for items in PSN, that way you could tell someone who games a lot by looking at his/her PSN gear and it would give you an incentive. If you like some cool shoes then go an game for them then comeback and exchange your points or whatever for them.

Has it got voice chat yet?
And proper game launch ability?
I want to be able to walk around, chat on mic to people easily, and meet folk. Agree on a game to play, pop it in the drive, and access it from home. where the two peopl(or more) will be ported to the multiplayer aspect of it, saving us the hassle of searching for each other/adding each other to the psn.
I hope this is now on it, and if so, I will look again. -

Sony really wasted a lot of time and money with this. I never use home anymore and neither do any of my freinds.

wow, not one positive comment about home. why did you even bother reading this article? (let alone comment on it). you dont want to use home? good, then dont use it. dont even comment on it because thats more of a waste of time then anything, I see people in home constantly and despite what you people think there really is a lot of content there now. is it going to please everyone? no, thats impossible. so quit whinning about things that displeases you on services you dont even use!

Iirc, it should have voic chat now, the last time I was on, there was a very large amount of things to do and yes, there was background downloading.
Nothing will harm you to give it one more chance. I am going to try it out later this evening to see what they are saying. If I don't like it I can always delete it..... again.

Sony should have took the time and money they spent on building Home and spent it on things the community really want like cross game voice chat that should have been included in the launch of the PS3 that is supposed to do 'Everything'. They just want everyone to go on Home so they can nickle and dime us because most of the cool content costs money.
