Sony has issued an official update on the problems continuing to affect the PlayStation Network, which has been offline for the sixth continuous day.
For the first time, Sony has officially confirmed that account holders details have been compromised "as a result of an illegal intrusion on our systems." Furthermore, users have been asked to keep an eye out for malicious attacks via email, phone or post, after an 'unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID.
The statement continues, warning users that credit card details could be used.
"It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained," reads the statement. "If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained."
"While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility," it continues. "If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained."
This has confirmed our worst fears at PSU, but Sony assures as that it is 'working night and day' to resolve the issue. The update can be read in full at the official PlayStation Blog.

Switch just because of that ? A system hack can happen anywhere on any platform / pc. it's unfortunate That this happen but I don't pay to play online so I'll just patiently wait until it's back up . I'm pretty sure the psn could have been back online already but why keep it up before solving the problem and have the same thing happen again .

Haha @ people who will switch systems. Live was hacked in 2007 and people had their accounts stolen. Bad things happen. It isn't Sonys fault, it was a malicious attack by a disgruntled idiot.

everybody's freaking out about this, and gaming media sties are overblowing it. Fact is, private info gets stolen from corporations all the time. Now everybody things they are going to get their ID stolen, when in fact it will probably only be an unlucky few who fail a roll on common sense and fall for a phishing scheme.
That aside, FU Sony. This is embarassing. Fire your cyber security team. If this isn't the final nail in the coffin for the struggling PS3, I don't know what is.
Uncharted 3 better be really good......

I will not change... I am mad, but understand it can happen to any big company. I also understand they didnt release information because at first they did not fully understand what happened. They probably didnt want to release false information. They waited until they had a better understanding. I have not had anything spent on my card and have gotten no spam or anything and it has been a week. I am confident SONY will get to the bottom of this and fix the issue.

We'll here's to the next 3 hours of changing password, contacting Credit Card company, and credit agencies.
Can you just have a Sony gift card to purchase, be a PS+ member, etc. rather than a credit card? If so this is what I'm doing moving forward.
