Duke Nukem profitable, L.A. Noire ships 4 million says Take-Two

Take-Two said during its earnings call last night that Duke Nukem Forever will be profitable for the U.S. publishing giant.

The foul-mouth shooter released back in June and received a bit of a pasting from critics to say the least, though according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, this hasn’t translated into poor sales.

"We're grateful to compete in a market where you can have a critical response that was disappointing, but can still make money," commented Zelnick.

Exact sales figures were not divulged, however.

Elsewhere, the firm revealed that crime caper L.A. Noire has shipped four million copies to date, while Red Dead Redemption has shipped 11 million units since its launch in May 2010. The latter’s Undead Nightmare expansion shipped two million to boot.

However, Take-Two posted a loss of $8.6 million for the first quarter of FY2012, with sales dropping from $375.4 miillion to $334.4 million.

Things are looking promising for the company though, with Zelnick adding: "Looking ahead to fiscal year 2013, we have already announced three exciting new releases: BioShock Infinite, Spec Ops: The Line, and Borderlands 2, and we have a very strong pipeline of yet-to-be announced titles in development.”

LOL! They are excited to be able to release a horrible game that still makes money? Awesome! Bring on a series of horrible games that make money like "Duke Nukem, Going to the Bathroom" and "Duke Nukem, Shopping for Supplies."

Anyone else see the grand theft auto v official webpage? I typed in http://gtav.com and a website pops up now for GTA V. They had on there that the game will be released in 2012, and set in Los Angeles. I really hope they don't do LA for the game, I prefer something overseas so the game has a different feeling. Though if they did do LA it would be cool to have some rappers and cool actors in the game. Slap around a few of those bums!

@CorneliusW That is most likely a fan page. The News section talks like they are not R*.

    For example:

"Rumors have been circulating that Rockstar has been researching on locations around Hollywood since last year. This could lead to Grand Theft Auto V setting in Los Angeles."

See, if it was really R*, it wouldn't say "Rumors have been circulating that Rockstar has been..."

It could be a official Fan Site, though. Just saying.

Duke Nukem was only profitable because it's been in development for 12 or 13 years. I guess everyone was waiting for it to come out, and had to play it, since they've been waiting 12 years.
