Kotaku reports that Zipper Interactive, the developer behind the likes of MAG and SOCOM, is to be shuttered.

Nothing official has been confirmed, though the site has heard whispers of significant layoffs and a cancelled project at the studio, indicating closure is imminent.

Zipper found critical and commercial success with the SOCOM franchise on PlayStation 2, beginning with SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals in 2002. Numerous sequels followed, and the series soon found its way on to PSP.

On PlayStation 3, the company produced the online multiplayer shooter MAG and SOCOM 4, with its latest game being PlayStation Vita outing Unit 13.

Stay tuned.

Damn it! Another studio goes down. =(  I was really looking forward to another shooter from Zipper too.

Hopefully there are no other studios on the same tracks. =/

It's a sad day but it had to be coming with all crap Zipper has been putting out.  Fans havent been happy since S2.

Right on Spotted.  SOCOM 4 was a huge disappointment.  Thankfully, I still have a PS2 and all the old "SOCOM"'s to play.

really think Socom2 HD would revitalize the company. If they are shutting down, why not do it?
