Sony commented tonight on user feedback in regards to a feature called "sidetone" implemented to the Wireless Stereo Headset via the PlayStation 3 Software Update 4.10 back in February.

"Sidetone" is the ability for players to hear themselves talk through the WSH while playing, and the addition has had a few issues in certain games since the PS3 Software Update. So, in response, Sony has confirmed that a fix is in the works, but Sony doesn't have a confirmed release date for the fix as of yet.

We'll keep you posted as to when the update that applies this fix goes live. Stay tuned!

Gotta give that a try. I hated feeling deaf every time I talked xD.
One of the best headsets on the market.

I use a bluetooth half headset, I don't like having both ears tied up in chit chat while im trying to kill people online.

5 I can understand that. Personally I don't have that issue with the 7.1 headset though, because of the ability to mix the sound levels of voice and game sfx.

Why on Earth would anyone want to hear themselves talking on their own headsets? That would be annoying as all h3ll!

This feature makes absolutely no sense unles your brain and mouth are completely and totally unassociated with one another. Don't people know what they are saying before they say it? Why the need to hear your own voice saying the words back to yourself?

For me, I'd rather have all of the sounds of the game and my teammates voices for clarity of the environment so as to be able to micro-strategize under duress without having my own voice lowering my chances of survival.

@8 I like it on my Astro headset because if I couldn't mix the audio, i wouldn't hear my voice at all, meaning i'd have no idea if i was talking too loud or too quiet. Plus it makes this weird deaf effect when i can't hear what i'm saying. The ability to mix the audio to your liking is a must--but that's just for me.

It is terrible on NHL12.The mic is so sensitive now that if you touch the mic hole you can almost blow your ears off your head. When I go outside for a smoke, the slightest wind blowing can be heard through the headset.I found it to be perfect before the update.

@Petra_Kalbrain1: Sidetone helps people verify that they're microphone is actually working.  You have the same thing in your home telephone, and you probably don't even notice it.  When there is no sidetone present some people just feel uneasy about talking into a microphone, whether because they're not sure it's actually working or if theyr'e talking too loudly or quietly.

It also helps (conscientious) people refrain from talking too loudly from not being able to hear themselves.

Exactly. We naturally hear our own voices and can moderate how it is used easier because of it. I found that having my own voice muffled was quite uncomfortable for me. Best update ever. :D

Well, I get by just fine without sidetone.

If someone is too loud, I tell them to turn their mic down. If someone is too quiet, I tell them to turn their mic up. If I'm too loud, I expect one of my friends (since I only use my headset with the regulars I play with) to tell me if it's too loud or quiet so I can take 3 seconds to adjust the volume.

And, to tell if the headset is working or not, I simply take 2 seconds to say, "Can everyone hear me okay?" 99% of the time, the answer is, "Yes. Loud and clear." If the answer is, "No" there is clearly a lack of volume since they CAN hear me to answer my question. If there is no answer to my question whatsoever, I reboot my PS3 and the issue is fixed everytime.

Hearing myself talk in the headset is something I want to avoid worse than the plague! SImple solutions exist without having to try and hear overtop of my own voice while playing games.

Cool to fix it but i dont have a problem with that it sucks there not listening to the problems that people are having.

Let me explain mine have you used the audio extension for the wsh basiclly it channels the playstation sound channel to headset so you dont disturb your parents or family members while playing a game however when you turn it on you cannot use video chat becuse it shuts off hte wsh mic which sucks i should be able to have sound comming through my headset and my mic working at the same time.

I personally love this mic only one problem i record live gameplays and this cuts off all sound from your tv well your using it whick makes the recordings have no sound. is there anyway i can make the sound come out of my tv and threw my headphones also. and is there a way to make others voice come threw the tv and yours echo threw so i can do live streaming with my voice and others?
