Rumor: PS4 'outperforms new Xbox,' has redesigned pad

According to EDGE, the PlayStation 4 will launch with a redesigned controller featuring a share button and small touchpad.
The pad itself is said to be similar in size to the PlayStation 3 DualShock controller, though the touchpad will replace the existing start, select and PS butons.
Citing industry sources, the website also states that Sony will begin rolling out the new console this winter in the U.S. and Japan. PAL regions however, won’t get it until early 2014 due to "complexities involved in European distribution."
EDGE backed up previous reports that the PS4 will be revealed this month at the PlayStation Meeting on February 20.
The site added that “the PS4 hardware will continually record the most recent 15 minutes of onscreen action (with no processing penalty, claims our source), which users will then be able to edit and broadcast via the Internet.”
In terms of technical prowess, EDGE said Sony’s new hardware “on paper, outperforms Microsoft’s next Xbox,” and includes an eight-core 1.6Hz CPU and 4GB DDR5 RAM solution as previously reported.
Finally, a “new, improved iteration of its PlayStation Eye peripheral” is in the works, the site reports, while PlayStation Move will also be compatible with the new machine.
PSU.com reported earlier today that PS4 will be released in November of this year, though it wasn’t made clear to us which territory this referred to. In light of EDGE’s report however, we presume it pertains to the Japan and/or U.S. launch.
Stay tuned.

The select/start buttons being replaced by touchpad tech sounds pretty pimp. I also like the idea of the 15min recording too. You know that Youtube would be filled with that! lol

With Sony circling the drain, the PS4 will be a suckfest.

I've never really honestly bought any extras for the PS3, but the revamped PS Eye sounds cool, I might be interested. I really wanted to get the PS Move but for some reason I still haven't. I'll wait and see if there is an updated version for the PS4.

I think the touchpad instead of the start/select buttons would be sick. Never liked the feel of the current start/select buttons, the rest of the buttons are so much more clickier whereas those two are squishy and rubbery. Hopefully Sony gets it right with its OS RAM usage this time, 4gb ddr5 imo, will be plenty even (hopefully) for sandbox games like GTA and Elder Scrolls.

@3 Learn to read, cretin. If you're trying to start false rumors, stop. Damn stupid piece of garbage. The article CLEARLY says which buttons would be replaced!
@4 Can you not understand "eight-core"? If you don't understand things like this, keep your ignorant face shut.
@8 Sad troll.
Interesting if SONY actually uses DDR5 RAM for the system, as DDR3 is the standard, and DDR4 isn't used yet. GDDR5 would be for the GPU only... -

^ HAHAHA this loser again. trying to pick people apart. I gotta say... for someone who tried to sound smart you keep looking like a bigger and bigger idiot. BTW. 1.6Hz is not a processor frequency of this millennium, no matter the amount of cores. Perhaps you should do a little research before you try to act smart, or perhap you should LEARN TO READ, CRETIN! because clearly is says Hz not MHz or GHz. Since you have problems with reading and general intelligence I'll just spell it out for you. you would need 1 million Hz to = 1 MHz.
also, way to use the same insult "cretin" over and over... did they just have a grammar test in elementry school today? -

I didn't even know that they made RAM as DDR5. I find it somewhat difficult to believe that they are using 4GB of DDR5 RAM. Maybe you guys meant GDDR5? As in graphics RAM?
@11, I hope you realize that unless they have some crazy brilliant architecture (which they won't), that CPU is SLOW, plus having eight cores is hardly something to brag about. A lot of games don't even support multiple threads. Therefore, most games will most likely only be utilizing one core, making that 1.6 GHZ even worse looking.
Final comment, I think that the title is a bit misleading. They said "on paper" the PS4 would outperform the XBOX. That does not mean that it actually does, as this depends on cpu architecture, the gpu, the hdd, and the overall compatibility of all those parts and more.

@11 Digilator
you need to learn to read my good man :3
you could have 20 cores but @ 1.6Hz it ain't gunna amount to squat. but i digress, i merely pointed out a typo in the article. a point which went right over your head ;)

@ 12 Where did I use "Hz" here? Obviously PSU made a mistake(either spreading bs(this isn't about the next XBOX after all...), or simply pasting wrong info). Keep your foul face shut, filthy troll loser.
@15 What games you know of, among AAA titles, use only one core these days? Do not spread filthy bs, you damn bugger. Even the PlayStation wasn't a straight single core system! Trolls/morons, keep your filth inside! Quit spreading BS! 8 cores at 1.6GHz WILL be fine for gaming! Watch how great titles(at least the top looking ones) WILL look on the PS4!
@16 A person who knows about these things, knows they meant 1.6GHz. Don't care what PSU is spreading here. This point went right over your head ;)
Gang up with bs all you want, it won't make you correct :)

Digilator/Digital Beast or whatever you are calling yourself, you'd be the troll of the year. You can read the news without an account here you know.. Everytime I see your comments it's all about insulting other people. Is that what you made an account here for? Insulting people?

The only thing that really counts is the quality of the games that will run on the PS4, saying that PS4 wil be more powerfull than the next xbox doesn't matter for me because I love Playstation games better. For the changes on the controller I'm happy with what Sony are doing.
