Releasing GTA every few years would 'degrade the series'

Take-Two’s chief operating officer Karl Slatoff has said that launching a new Grand Theft Auto title every two years would ‘degrade’ the series.

“To us, that doesn’t make sense, because Grand Theft Auto, every single time it comes out, is a brand new experience,” Slatoff said, during a Wedbush Securities Conference. “You can’t possibly do that in two years.”

“And if we did that, our product would fatigue and the franchise would degrade from a value perspective.”

Grand Theft Auto V is out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September.

Kudos to these guys. Final Fantasy has put out a bunch of BS in the last 3 years with so many non-qual games. Battlefield is becoming this now that they are going for an annual release followed by quarterly add-ons. And let's not even talk about Call of Duty.

Yeah... just look at Assassin's Creed. It used to hold a certain amount of mystique, and they are churned out every twelve months with no surprise or anticipation. Rockstar are so good at crafting new IP they'd never have to turn GTA into an annual franchise- they've got Red Dead, L.A Noire, Max Payne or something entirely new to turn to.

That's good to see dev's making quality games instead of quantity, can't wait to get my hands on GTA V!

Yeah, there was a point when a Final fantasy game release used to be an EVENT, something you looked are with wonder and amazment, but it's been almost a frequent as Madden lately. Only the most hardcore of fans even care now. Same with Need for speed until Criterion took over. I don't see this as a shot at Saint's Row though, SR has a slow release cycle despite being faster than GTA, I'm sure THQ wished it came out faster, another sequel might have save the company for a few months from going out of business.

I think gta5 is gonna be the best game anyone has ever seen/played! That's how it should be, not throwing games onto shelves every 12 months. Personally.......I really can't wait!!!! ROCKSTAR
