TGS 2013 – Emperor of the Show Award: Sony

The Emperor of the Show award is given to the company that won the Tokyo Game Show. This was an easy choice for us because Sony went full-out to own TGS this year. Other companies like SEGA, Microsoft and EA put a lot of money and pop into their booths but Sony hit what gamers wanted from all angles. Starting out with the Keynote speech to open the event, things only positively snowballed from there. The console maker had the biggest booth with all the games people wanted to play that were available, along with a VIP booth to show off launch titles for the PlayStation 4. Even games from companies that had and did not have booths at the event had their games available at the Sony booth. Sony also went out of their way to make all gamers and media feel welcome. TGS is a Japanese event but you would not know it here. Aside from the games obviously being in Japanese, the staff on hand were knowledgeable, passionate, and all spoke English to help foreigners –something that cannot be said about other companies at the show. Lastly they also had the star power. MGS5 is one of the most hyped and hottest titles coming out in the near-future, and while the game is multi-platform, Hideo Kojima was demoing the title live on multiple days on the Sony stage. It was a flash knock-out combination that no one else had the jaw to challenge.
