Martin Klima, co-founder of Kingdom Come Deliverance developer Warhorse Studios, has revealed that he’s not the biggest fan of Grand Theft Auto, but is eager to see Grand Theft Auto VI do big numbers as he’s hoping that it will allow game studios such as has his own to increase their prices.
Speaking with PCGamer, Klima revealed Rockstar Games’ multi-million selling franchise “doesn’t appeal to me at all,” adding, “I am not going to be playing GTA 6 unless I’m somehow forced to,” he continued. “And the reason why it is so popular—it beats me. It’s something which I just fail to understand.” Despite not being a fan, he was keen to add he has no ill feeling towards the series or Rockstar, stating “it’s really good that somebody is making these games that are really technologically marvels.”
“The last thing you can do is to increase the unit price,” he continued. “That would help a lot, but everybody’s scared to death about it. Now, hopefully, GTA will blaze the trail, and it will allow us to increase the cost.” Klima added that Rockstar and Take-Two are the only ones “who can afford, or who can dare, to increase the price of games, which I think is long overdue and also necessary for this business to survive. So I wish them all the luck.”
Warhorse Studios is currently working on at least two major projects, one of which is a new entry in the Kingdom Come Deliverance and the other a new RPG based in the realm of Middle-Earth from The Lord of the Rings. Warhorse Studios’ communications director revealed soon after the reveal that the Middle-earth RPG is a “passion project” for the studio, promising a “deeply immersive” experience for players.
