Afro Samurai 2 video interview – ‘music is the blood, it’s a rock opera’

Redacted Studios and Versus Evil have released a new video interview for the upcoming anime hack ‘n slash adventure, Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma.

Though the first game in the series quickly gained a cult following with its blend of slick anime, over-the-top gore and superb voice acting from the likes of Samual L Jackson, there was certainly scope for improvement, which Redacted President David Robinson plans to address in Afro Samurai 2. One major area of change is the switch to episodic content – Afro Samurai 2 will consist of multiple chapters, playing out like a T.V. show with each episode continuing the storyline and introducing new characters and combat moves.

What’s really encouraging for fans of Afro Samurai is that Redacted plans to listen to fan feedback from each episode and incorporate community ideas  in future chapters, allowing gamers to help shape its future content.

In the interview, we learn from David and Afro Samurai 2 head writer Jim DeFelice about the narrative and gameplay evolution, as well as its close ties to hip-hop. Just like the original title, Afro Samurai 2 will be infused with a unique soundtrack, created specifically around each of the characters you meet.

“Every new volume will have a completely new soundtrack from a completely new contributor,” says David.
