Naughty Dog has suggested that the Uncharted series may continue following the events of the upcoming standalone adventure, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
Speaking during an interview with Eurogamer, Shaun Escayg, Writer and Creative Director on The Lost Legacy, was quizzed if the upcoming title, which features Chloe Fraser and Nadine Ross teaming up following the events of UC4, would be the series’ swansong. In response, he indicated that we may yet see an Uncharted 5 or possible spinoff title:
“I wouldn’t say it’s the end. This thieving world is huge. There’s so many characters. Even before we settled on this particular story we were exploring Sullivan, we were exploring Cutter, and pairing each other up, thinking what would be right, what would have conflict, growth, something new, something fresh. And Chloe was the one that kept jumping out.
But to say the Uncharted world is done… I doubt that highly.”
He also revealed that the studio has a number of ideas for fan-favorites such as Victor Sullivan, even if the Chloe and Nadine arch won out this time. “Yeah… We did explore, I would say, almost every character in that world and we do have spines and storylines to explore with them. But this was the one we chose to settle on.”
The California-based studio had seemingly ruled out any future involvement regarding Uncharted, having suggested that a new game could happen with a different developer on board. In fact, we’ve already listed a few companies that we think would do a great job at taking over the series. Whether Escayg’s comments imply Naughty Dog has had a change of heart and may yet produce more titles, or whether he’s just indicating another studio could pick up the franchise down the line, remains unclear.
