While the latest PlayStation 4 firmware update was released earlier today, it seems those who are part of the PS4 5.0 beta group might want to hold off on downloading it for now.
Multiple users on Reddit have mentioned that updating their PS4 with update 4.74 will result in lost folders, and even uninstall some applications like Sharefactory. What’s more, if you do update your PS4 to 4.74 and you’re part of the 5.0 beta group, you won’t be able to downgrade it, and will have to wait for “beta 6.”
If you can’t read the post above from Reddit user “Felony-,” it says:
You can let it download and prepare to install, then leave it be. If you cancel and delete it it’ll just keep coming back, i even went offline and it still added it to the download list, so it’s not worth the hassle.
If you do indeed downgrade, then it’ll remove your folders and whatever 5.0 initially added. Also apparently uninstalls some applications like share factory. It’s currently in Beta 5, so if you downgrade, you can’t revert back at all. You’re going to have to wait until Beta 6
(Sony also sent out an email to advise against installing it, and beta 6 was confirmed in that same email. I did not get the email myself.)
Here’s the email from Sony (via NeoGAF):
For the rest of us folks, update away! While PS4 update 4.74 didn’t bring anything new to the table aside from stability updates, 5.0 will be the big one, with new features that PS4 gamers will surely like.
