Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare first details: hoverbikes, cloaking devices and PMCs bring about a new era of CoD

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has been given its first info drop ahead of its intended reveal on May 4, following the release of the official debut trailer.

The first and most obvious thing is the game’s futuristic setting. From what we’ve gathered so far, it appears the plot revolves around a PMC group headed by Kevin Spacey’s character, who turns against the U.S. government.

Given the shift in setting, this has allowed created Sledgehammer Games to go to town in implementing all manner of elaborate, futuristic tech. So, you can expect to go hands-on with the likes of hoverbikes, cloaked choppers and more.

It’s not only the vehicles which will benefit from the advance in technology. Soldiers are capable of equipping themselves with specialized portable cover units, and can now scale walls thanks to some swanky suits. This powerful war gear can also give them the ability to leap huge distances, as depicted in the reveal trailer.

In terms of settings, there’s a few snippets in the trailer that indicate a futuristic New York, thanks to the conspicuous appearance of yellow cabs. However, we imagine Activision is taking its time in confirming much of these details.

In terms of platforms, the footage shown so far was captured on the Xbox One, though it’s safe to say you can expect a PlayStation 4 version to turn up, as well as PC. Nothing regarding a PS3 version has been confirmed yet, though Internet sleuth Superannuation suggests the port is being worked on by another studio.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is scheduled to ship on November 4. Stay tuned to PSU.com for more details.
