12 daring PlayStation Experience 2016 predictions

The hype wagon is rolling into town once more as we get closer to the start of PlayStation Experience 2016 (PSX). Alongside dozens of publishers and game studios on the show floor showcasing their PS4 wares, Sony will be hosting a press conference where we can likely expect one or two pleasant surprises.

Wondering what games will be shown? What Sony will talk about during its press conference? And which developers are planning a surprise? Well, we don’t know, quite frankly, but here’s our PlayStation Experience predictions.

Uncharted 4 Story DLC details

The rumors are coming in thick and fast about the first story DLC for Uncharted 4 making an appearance at PSX. We know for definite that Naughty Dog has been hard at work on additional content, but a person claiming to be an inside, also says that it will be revealed at the U.S. event and will be playable on the show floor. He also states that it will be a standalone addition to the series that won’t require the original game to play. Expect an Uncharted 4 Story DLC trailer!

Resident Evil 2 Remake gets shown off

A Resident Evil 2 remake is in development, and fans of the survival horror series are chomping at the bit to see screenshots, gameplay, a trailer, and find out a firm release date. Capcom initially announced the news that it was working on the remake way back in August 2015 but has been tight-lipped ever since, probably because it’s been deep in development with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Will the PlayStation Experience finally be the platform to draw back the curtains on this hotly-anticipated remake?

inFamous 3 delivers a Sucker Punch

inFamous developer Sucker Punch has been fairly quiet since the release of inFamous: Second Son in March 2014, aside from the release of a HDR and 4K patch for the game recently. Second Son was left wide open for a sequel and the series has been incredibly popular among fans. As one of Sony’s best exclusives, the inFamous series will undoubtedly get a third entry and PSX would be the perfect place to showcase it.

God of War explodes onto the scene

Sony Santa Monica’s God of War stole the show at E3 2016, although since then we’ve seen literally nothing on Kratos’ Norse-inspired bloodbath. While the team has suggested that the game won’t actually be putting in an appearance at PSX 2016, we can’t imagine one of the biggest games of 2017 missing out on such a crucial event, especially as the game has been in hiding for the past five months. Indeed, Sony’s annual PlayStation bash would be the ideal time to showcase just how Kratos’ latest adventure is shaping up—perhaps with a new gameplay demo?

Spider-Man looks amazing

Marvel’s infamous web-slinger is hitting PlayStation 4 in the not-too-distant future, and looks set to be one of the greatest superhero games outside of the Batman Arkham series. Spider-Man ranks as easily one of the most anticipated games for Sony’s flagship console, and like so many of the games announced at E3, we’ve seen pretty much nothing on the title for months now. While the cinematic trailer showcased at Sony’s presser was impressive, we think that PSX would be the perfect platform in which to debut some proper gameplay footage of Spidey’s much-anticipated adventure.

Syphon Filter reboot sneaks out

Sony’s sneaky franchise has been dormant for years now, though it’s worth remembering Syphon Filter remains very much a fan favorite and has the stealth chops to rival any of Solid Snake’s adventures. Rumors of a reboot of the series have been doing the rounds for a number of years now, though nothing has ever materialised; given the popularity of Syphon Filter though, we’re willing to bet that Sony is ready to resurrect Logan and co. for the PS4 after all this time. After all, isn’t PSX supposed to be about bombshell announcements? We couldn’t think of a better candidate than a Syphon Filter reboot.

Shenmue III gameplay blows the roof off

Since Yu Suzuki launched a Kickstarter campaign for the Japan-centric adventure and nearly broke the internet under the weight of anticipation, Shenmue III fans have only been drip-fed information. The occasional screenshot, a glance behind the doors of the development studio and minor updates for its backers leaves fans begging for more. We want to see gameplay, and if Yu Suzuki crops up on stage at PSX with your glorious-looking footage you can bet he’ll bring the house down.

Gran Turismo Sport release date

You can bet that all the games shown at PSX will be showcased on PS4 Pro with 4K graphics, and Gran Turismo Sport would look incredible on the big screen. It’s entirely possible we could also get a glance at the VR experience that Polyphony is creating for GT Sport, but most importantly fans will want to know exactly when we can expect to actually get into the driving seat and speed away down the straights.

Star Wars Battlefront new content pimped

EA DICE may take the opportunity to pimp its Battlefront wares once having just released the Star Wars Battlefront Ultimate Edition, and with the pending release of the Rogue One: Scarif" DLC and the VR spin-off Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission. We wouldn’t be surprised at all to see the latter available to demo on the show floor.

Battlefield 1 DLC blow-out

EA DICE has kept its cards close to its chest regarding the upcoming DLC for Battlefield 1 which is expected to be released earlier next year. The first piece of DLC content has been named ‘They Shall Not Pass’ and we wouldn’t be surprised at all to see some teaser footage, perhaps of the new multiplayer maps, and the finer details of what will be included.

Mass Effect Andromeda release date and gameplay

There’s still so much more to learn about Mass Effect Andromeda, the third entry in Bioware’s epic sci-fi role-playing game series. Let’s see a good hefty chunk of gameplay at the PSX press conference! We’d also expect the studio to firmly nail down a release date.

Ubisoft at PSX 2016

Ubisoft will be showing off something or other, guaranteed. We could see some more footage of For Honor, which they showcased at last year’s event, or something Assassin’s Creed related. If so, Assassin’s Creed Empire could be on the agenda. Apparently set in Egypt, Empire has yet to be officially announced but with some leaked screens now out in the wild, Ubisoft may be on the verge of an unveiling.

The PlayStation Experience takes place in Anaheim, California on December 3-4, 2016.
