Square Enix’s Hajime Tabata has said that he looked to inspiration from classic Final Fantasy titles on the NES and SNES when developing the hotly anticipated PlayStation 4 and Xbox One title, Final Fantasy XV.
Speaking in a recent interview with his company titled ‘Who is Hajime Tabata,’ (via GamePur) the Final Fantasy XV director name-dropped titles including Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV as being among his main sources for inspiration.
"Previously I would have said FF-I and FF-VII were my favourite to play but while making Final Fantasy XV, some of the ones I’m referring to the most and the ones I’m drawing the most inspiration from and getting a lot out of are FF-III, FF-IV, FF-V and FF-VI,” Tabata-san commented.
“The more I look at them, the more I think—‘wow’” he added.
Final Fantasy XV has yet to receive a release date, though the game itself has been a long time coming. Initially starting out life as the PlayStation 3-exclusive Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Square Enix ultimately decided to rename the project at E3 2013 as Final Fantasy XV after many years of silence.
A demo of the game will be shipped with the first batch of copies of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD early next year.
