Capcom has confirmed that the upcoming high-definition remaster of Resident Evil will be available as a cross-buy purchase for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3—but only if you pre-order the game.
The survival horror title’s PS Store listing states that pre-orders will take advantage of cross-buy and will also net gamers a PS3 Theme. Capcom later confirmed this in a statement to Polygon.
Resident Evil HD Remaster is due out in late January for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. The game supports 1080p visuals, a new control scheme, and improved sound effects.
Resident Evil was originally released in 1996 for the PlayStation and was later ported to Sega Saturn and PC. The game was remade for GameCube in 2002, and it’s this version the HD re-release is based on.
