Destiny: The Taken King cuts Weekly Heroic Strike, Nightfall XP boost

Bungie has outlined a number of new changes that Destiny’s forthcoming The Taken King expansion will bring to the game’s Nightfall and Weekly Heroic Strike playlists.

First up, The Taken King’s Creative Director, Luke Smith, confirmed that the Nightfall will no longer reward players with a meaty XP boost. Furthermore, Guardians won’t be booted back to Orbit should the entire fireteam perish during the match.

So, we’ve shelved that buff until we can reform it into something closer to its original intent – a mark of prestige for having achieved something challenging,” said Smith.

We’ve adjusted sources of XP and Reputation up to account for its absence.

The death penalty of being kicked to orbit often leads to players feeling forced to play too safe, rather than running through the world as a monster killing machine,” he added.

Perhaps most interesting however is the fact the Weekly Heroic Strike has been axed completely. In its place will be the new Vanguard Heroic Playlist, which offers rewards including Legendary Marks and Legendary Engrams.

However, you’ll need to defeat Oryx first, as both the Nightfall and Heroic Playlist are gated at Level 40.

The Taken King arrives on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 on September 15. If you are downloading the digital version, then be sure to make sure you have enough hard drive space. Also, have a gander at the new exotics and subclasses set to join the expansion while you’re at it.
