The developer behind the upcoming Mass Effect Andromeda has refused to comment further on a possible high-definition remaster of the Mass Effect Trilogy for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Speaking on Twitter, BioWare’s Chris Wynn, who has been very prolific this year in drip-feeding us info on the highly anticipated fourth instalment in the action-RPG series, first tackled the question of whether we’ll ever see Commander Shepard again.
Unsurprisingly, he was unable to answer the question with a definitive answer, simply stating it was "impossible" to state whether or not Shepard would ever return. Still, we know for sure that he won’t be showing up in Andromeda. Elsewhere, Wynn kept tight-lipped in regards to any plot details regarding the game, and wasn’t sure when we could expect to hear more on the subject.
Wynn was even less forthcoming in regards to the much-rumored Mass Effect HD Trilogy, and wouldn’t be drawn into commenting on the possibility of seeing Shepard’s exploits coming to PS4 and Xbox One. Still, don’t expect rumors of a HD Trilogy to stop anytime soon.
Mass Effect Andromeda is due out on PS4, PC and Xbox One in holiday 2016. The game was announced during Electronic Arts’ E3 2015 press conference, and Wynn has been slowly dropping details for quite some time now. Andromeda has been confirmed to feature dynamic weather effects, and while no returning characters will be present, the combat is set to perform similar to its predecessors.
BioWare has indicated the game will be the largest instalment in the series yet, and has hinted that co-op multiplayer will make a comeback following its debut in Mass Effect 3. As previously mentioned, Commander Shepard will not be returning for this fourth outing, and the game will not be a prequel to the Reaper invasion depicted in the original trilogy.
While BioWare has yet to confirm official details on the game’s setting, a leak from earlier this year suggests the title will be set in the Helius Cluster, which is far removed from anything seen in the previous games. Be sure to check out the official screenshots provided by BioWare here.
As for a Mass Effect HD Trilogy, we’ve been hearing murmurs of such a release for quite some time now. EA has acknowledged the demand for the bundle, though admitted it may not even happen. On a positive note, BioWare has openly embraced the idea of a HD Trilogy, and a listing for a PS4 version previously appeared on a retailer’s website.
