Final Fantasy 7 Remake to shed more light on Biggs, Jessie, and Wedge

The latest issue of Famitsu magazine has spilled more beans on the hotly anticipated remake of Final Fantasy VII for PlayStation 4 via an interview with producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Tetsuya Nomura, and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.

According to the trio, players will not only be given the chance to explore all areas of Midgar, but the team also wants to further explore the characters of Biggs, Jessie, and Wedge, who are members of freedom fighters, AVALANCHE. In the original Final Fantasy VII, the three characters had only minor roles in the beginning of the game before being killed off during Shinra’s assault on Sector 7.

Elsewhere, Kitase-san and his team said they are unsure as to how many volumes of Final Fantasy VII Remake will bea released at this point, and can’t comment on any possible online features. However, the team did reveal that the voice cast is expected to be the same as the CG film, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

Sony announced the Final Fantasy VII Remake during its E3 2015 press conference to rapturous applause, and later showcased the first gameplay during its annual PlayStation Experience event a few weeks back. Square Enix later confirmed that the game will be made available as a multi-part series, as it would otherwise have to summarise parts of the experience to fit it onto one release. The development team are aiming to get the character models in the remake on par with those in Advent Children.

Square Enix has revealed that the newly revamped battle system will be different to that of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, but will still be action-based. The game is being powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4, and new information is expected to be showcased at the upcoming Jump Festa event in Japan. As previously reported, the first-part scenario for the remake, which will be playable first on PS4, is now complete.
