Update: An Activision rep has told Game Informer in an email, “We’re not doing that.”
According to VG247, Bungie is planning on flogging Destiny gamers ammo packs in exchange for real-life currency.
Right now nothing official on the matter has been confirmed, and it’s unknown when the feature will be implemented in the shared-world shooter. If true though, then it’ll allow gamers to stock up far easier on things like Heavy Ammo Synthesis, which power weapons such as Rocket Launchers and Machine Guns.
Micro-transactions have already made their way into Destiny in the shape of the Eververse Trading Company, which allows Guardians to pay for new emotes using Silver, a new form of currency acquired by spending real money.
Aside from picking up Heavy Ammo packs from defeated enemies, the item can only be acquired from three vendors: Banshee-44, Variks, and Xur, Agent of the Nine.
Destiny was released in September 2014 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. The game received three expansion packs, including The Dark Below, House of Wolves, and The Taken King, the latter being the biggest DLC for the game to date.
Moving forward, Bungie has confirmed that it intends to offer event-based content rather than expansions to continue to flesh out the Destiny experience. One such example is the Sparrow Racing League, which was made available for a few weeks before Christmas, and the upcoming Crimson Days event in February.
Bungie has also said that Destiny will receive a major event at some point before spring 2016, which will be the biggest update to the shooter since The Taken King. Rumors also indicate that the planned sequel to Destiny has been delayed from a September 2016 launch.
