Street Fighter 5 getting free story expansion this summer

Capcom has announced that a free Cinematic Story expansion for Street Fighter V will be released in June 2016.

The new content is set between the events of Street Fighter III and Street Fighter IV, and promises a cinematic experience for players unlike anything seen in the venerable fighting franchise.

In addition, Capcom confirmed that the base game will feature story elements out of the box, allowing gamers to unlock the back story for individual characters. Furthermore, these sequences will feature art work designed by acclaimed Japanese artist, Bengus, who has worked on the franchise in the past.

Players who complete the story content and other single-player activities will earn Fight Money, allowing them to obtain new characters and other DLC. The first content drop will take place in March, and can also be purchased using your own cash.

Street Fighter V is due out for PlayStation 4 and PC in February. The game will remain a console exclusive to Sony’s current-generation console indefinitely, with series overlord, Yoshinori Ono, suggesting that Xbox One gamers save up for a PS4 if they want to play it.

In addition, Ono-san has revealed that he has a five-year plan in store for the hotly anticipated sequel. Street Fighter V will feature 16 characters at launch, with more rolling out throughout the rest of 2016. However, Capcom has attracted some criticism from fans for eschewing popular characters such as Blanka and Sagat.

The box art for Street Fighter V will feature a new ‘PS4 Console Exclusive’ branding from Sony, which will presumably be used on all of its upcoming exclusive content from here on out. The format holder will also launch a SFV PS4 bundle alongside the standard game at retail next month.
