Battlefield 5 is set in the First World War, claims retailer

Battlefield 5 will arrive on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One in October and take place during the First World War, according to Swiss retailer, World of Games.

The listing has the game down as a ‘multiplayer tactical shooter’ with an accompanying release date of October 26.

While publisher Electronic Arts has yet officially unveil a new Battlefield title, it has confirmed that a new game in the series is due to hit stores in fall 2016, which ties in neatly with the October window listed on the site.

At the time of writing the filing for Battlefield 5 has yet to be taken offline, although it probably won’t remain up for long.

Needless to say a World War 1 setting would be quite interesting, considering most first-person shooters of this calibre are either set in the second World War or tend to opt for a more contemporary setting. More recently, the likes of Call of Duty and Battlefield have taken place in a near-futuristic time period, which seems to be running out of steam among some players.

Could DICE end up taking Battlefield back to the Great War? Until we get an official announcement, we’ll have to wait and see.
