BioWare’s Aaron Flynn has revealed that the highly anticipated Anthem has been in production for nearly half-a-decade.
Speaking during an interview with CBC Radio, Flynn indicated that work on the highly anticipated science-fiction shooter began around the time development wrapped on Mass Effect 3. This is also around the same time that BioWare started working on Mass Effect Andromeda, which hit stores for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One back in March. However, the reception to that particular game was somewhat lukewarm, so hopefully Anthem will deliver on its ambitions.
“It’s pretty surreal, actually,” said Flynn, when quizzed what it feels like to have finally showcased the game. “We’ve been working on it for, as an idea, it’s been close to around about five years now.”
Anthem release date
Anthem was officially unveiled during Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference, and was later confirmed to be targeting a fall 2018 launch window. The game takes advantage of a shared-world universe similar to that of Destiny and Tom Clancy’s The Division, and sees gamers taking control of armed-to-the-teeth Freelancers, who are tasked with protecting humanity and exploring uncharted worlds.
Unsurprisingly, Anthem will place a large emphasis on co-op play, with players able to team up and tackle missions together, again much like Destiny. Furthermore, each character in the game is equipped with a full customisable suit known as a Javlin, which can be beefed up with various gear you acquire on your travels.
Stay tuned for more Anthem details as we get them.
