Following yesterday’s news that BioWare is restructuring as it shifts focus to the new Mass Effect game, a number of developers from the Dragon Age team have confirmed they’re leaving the company.
Gary McKay, BioWare’s General Manager, confirmed yesterday that the team doesn’t require support from the full studio, with IGN stating that a number of BioWare developers have been positioned into other roles by EA. Now, a number of employees have revealed they are departing BioWare.

Among these include Karin West-Weekes (Editor), Trick Weekes (Narrative Designer and Lead Writer), and Ryan Cormier (Editor), who are now looking for work elsewhere. In addition, Producer Jen Cheverie and Senior Systems Designer, Michelle Flame, have also left BioWare.
When asked by IGN for specific details on how many people at BioWare were being impacted by these restructuring plans, as well how many may face losing their jobs and those that remain, EA responded with the following, somewhat ambiguous message:
The studio’s priority was Dragon Age. During this time there were people continuing to build the vision for the next Mass Effect. Now that The Veilguard has shipped, the studio’s full focus is Mass Effect. While we’re not sharing numbers, the studio has the right number of people in the right roles to work on Mass Effect at this stage of development.
Mass Effect 5 hasn’t been given a release date yet and is still likely in the early stages of production. Dragon Age: The Veilguard was released in October last year for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, although it was confirmed recently that the game’s director, Corinne Busche, was leaving BioWare.
Unfortunately, it seems that Dragon Age: The Veilguard didn’t do the numbers EA were hoping for, as the publishing giant recently announced it was lowering its forecast for the fiscal year after both The Veilguard and EA Sports FC 25 “underperformed.”
