Activision wants Black Ops to beat MW2’s sales record

Activision has revealed that it’s setting its sights on surpassing Modern Warfare 2’s sales record with the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Speaking during an interview with MCV, Michael Sportouch, Call of Duty’s European general manager, said the company is hoping for Black Ops to succeed as the biggest entertainment launch of the year.

“We’ve a fantastic game and a fantastic marketing campaign so our ambition is to set another record like we did with Modern Warfare 2,” he said.

“The resources invested behind Black Ops in terms of development of the game and the marketing are the highest ever for Activision. Our ambition is not only to be the biggest game but also the biggest entertainment launch of the year.”

In addition, Sportouch revealed that Black Ops’ advertisement campaign will commence on Friday in the form of a 60-second TV spot due to air during the Euro 2012 qualifier clash between England and Bulgaria. Following this, he promised the campaign would be "non-stop."

Call of Duty: Black Ops deploys to retailers around the world on November 9.
