Anthem takes inspiration from Destiny, reveals EA

Anthem has already attracted many comparisons with Destiny, both aesthetically and from a core design perspective: both titles take on a sci-fi element and share a large, connected world for players to team up in and tackle missions, but it seems that the similarities don’t stop there.

Anthem PS4 release date confirmed

Speaking during a livestream event at E3, Patrick Soderlund, Electronic Arts’ Executive Vice President, confirmed that the game will be following a similar 10-year plan to Bungie’s shared-world shooter. He also made it clear the game has been in development for quite some time.

Anthem is a social game where you and your friends go on quests and journeys. It’s a game that we’ve been working on for almost four years now, and once we launch it next year I think it’ll be the start of a ten-year journey for us,” said Soderlund.

While the exact details of the decade-long plan for Anthem remain unknown at this point, it is likely we’ll see a similar content run as Destiny, with multiple expansion packs and updates released in the years following the game’s release. Destiny, for example, is three-years-old this September, but it’s only this year that we’re getting a full-fledged sequel to the original alien shooter.

Anthem story could be as epic as Mass Effect

Anthem was announced during E3 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One during Microsoft’s press conference. The game is currently scheduled for a release in fall 2018, and sees gamers hopping into the boots of a group of warriors known as freelancers, who are tasked with exploring uncharted planets and protecting humanity. Each freelancer is kitted out in full customisable eco-suits known as Javelins, which can be upgraded with numerous gear that you craft yourself or find out in the wilderness.

Anthem will focus on cooperative play, with EA confirming that the sci-fi flavored action title will support up to four players teaming up to explore the world and complete missions together. Stay tuned for more details at PSU as we get them.
