As PS5 Release Looms, Sony Says ‘There’s A Lot More To Come From PS4’

The head of worldwide marketing for Sony has revealed that there’s plenty of life left in the old dog yet regarding PS4, despite the impending PS5 release this holiday season.

PS4 Isn’t Dead Yet, Assures Sony

Chatting with Geoff Keighley during his preview of the DualSense controller, Eric Lempel revealed that the PS4 still remains ‘a big part of everything we do,’ and it’s clear the format holder plans to support the console for a while yet.

We believe that all of these things combined, as well as all the other great PS5 features we’ve spoken about, really lead to a next generation experience. And in many cases, we can’t take everybody with us from previous consoles into that experience. You need new hardware, you need new devices to experience what these developers want you to experience.

PS4 is a big part of everything we do, and will continue to be a big part of everything we do. There’s a lot more to come for PS4. I think we’re seeing some of the greatest titles of this generation release in recent weeks, but that will continue. PS5 is the next generation product, but we’ve got a lot to come for people on PS4. There’s still a ton of life in that product.

Unlike Microsoft, who is quick to drop old hardware support in favour of its latest release, Sony has continually supported its consoles for many years alongside new machines. The PS2, for example, still sold well during the early PS3 years, and the PS3 itself continued to enjoy success as a budget console after the PS4 launched.
