Ubisoft’s movie adaptation of the multi-million selling Assassin’s Creed franchise has officially kicked off filming in Malta this week, the Malta Film Commission has announced.
The historical action-adventure flick is set in Spain and will tell an all-new story not previously featured in the Assassin’s Creed games. Fassbender is to assume the role of Callum Lynch, who experiences the memories of his ancestor, Aguilar, an assassin who lived during the 15th century.
Malta has served as a filming location for many high-profile movies over the past 15 years or so, including Gladiator, Troy, World War Z and Captain Phillips.
Assassin’s Creed is being directed by Justin Kurzel and co-stars Michael Kenneth Williams, Ariane Labed, Carlos Bardem and Denis Menochet. In case you missed a summary of the film, check it out below.

Assassin’s Creed is due out in cinemas in December 2016.
