Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Naval Combat Gameplay

We get a first glimpse of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey combat controls in Ubisoft’s released video on how they redesigned naval gameplay. Here, the game’s lead programmers and developer shows us what we can expect to face in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey naval combat.

First, their upgrade focuses on the ships mobility and speed. Charles Benoit says boats will have very high-speed limits and quick maneuvering features. So if you see an Athenian ship indicated by their blue sail, you can get near within a few seconds.

Improved Assassin’s Creed Odyssey combat abilities introduced here are ramming and cleaving. Ship’s Speed Ram Attack is better in Odyssey. You can ram your opponent from any direction and begin shooting them. Cleaving is driving through the boat’s body and cutting in half. When you cleave, you regain your ship’s health and you can get additional rewards aside from sinking the ship.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Naval Combat Sinking Ships

Aside from ramming and cleaving, you can sink the ship through your crew’s attack. Chase enemies’ ship and don’t let it get away. Once you’re near enough, shoot it with arrows or javelins and even fire ammunition to burn the ship.

If you can inflict enough damage to the enemies’ ship, you can immobilize them. Then you can jump into their ship and invade it like a pirate. Leave no enemy alive. Pay attention when enemy’s silhouette glow red because their attack is unstoppable. What you can do, however, is dodge it.

Once you swipe enemies out, get a looting spree. Take whatever you can, the bigger the ship, the bigger the rewards you can get. Also, find and open treasure chest whether they are at the ship or deep down the waters. Take a dive and hunt them but be careful because there are sharks which are not that easy to defeat.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Naval Customizing Ships & Recruiting

As you begin your journey, you’ll start with a small ship with low levels of power and abilities. As you continue, your ship will get stronger with the upgrades. You can upgrade your ramming, cleaving, javelins and arrows. Most importantly, you can customize your ship in any way you want like its crew and perks.

You can recruit people from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey world to be lieutenants too. To recruit in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, search for the best archer or mercenary, knock him out and then pay him to be part of your ship’s crew. Your crew’s ability and perks directly affect your ship’s power and strength. The higher their stamina, weapon and armors, the more powerful your ship will be.
