Build A Rocket Boy Reportedly Suffers Yet More Layoffs With Around 170 Employees Affected

Build A Rocket Boy, the studio behind MindsEye, has reportedly suffered more layoffs in the past week, with around 170 workers losing their jobs, according to a report on Kotaku.

Citing “sources familiar with the restructuring,” the report claims “that roughly 170 members at the studio have been affected buy the layoffs, bringing the total number of staff at the studio down to somewhere around 80 employees.” Build A Rocket Boy has been hit by numerous job losses in the past year, with layoffs coming in summer last year and as recent as March 2026.

While it should be noted that Build A Rocket Boy hasn’t announced another round of layoffs yet, James Tyler and Tom Cross, who served as Technical Level Designer and Audio Designer, respectively, revealed on LinkedIn that they are no longer employed at the studio. In addition, Kotatu’s report reveals that a number of Build A Rocket Boy’s social media team have confirmed via Discord they are wrapping up their time at the developer this week.

Back in March, Build A Rocket Boy announced that its publishing collaboration with IO Interactive had come to an end, which came just a few weeks after the company revealed it had suffered fresh layoffs.

MindsEye was released on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S in June 2025, but was plagued by numerous bugs and performance issues, which resulted in Build A Rocket Boy hastily working on fixes. The PlayStation Store started offering refunds on the game, and Build A Rocket Boy later stated it was heartbroken by MindsEye’s launch woes.
