Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Dev Talks PS4 Timed-Exclusive Survival Mode

Infinity Ward has issued clarification on the PS4 timed-exclusive content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, after it emerged earlier this week that those who buy the game on Sony’s console will have access to the Survival Mode for about a year ahead of PC and Xbox One owners.

For the uninitiated, this mode is part of the Spec Ops co-op experience, and a lot of folk weren’t too chuffed about the news.

Writing on Twitter, Infinity Ward’s Taylor Kurosaki made it clear that the decision was down to publisher Activision and Sony, with the developer having no say in the matter.

“There are decisions that are above all of our pay grades that have to be considered,” he said. In addition, Kurosaki made it clear that Survival Mode is only a small portion of the Spec Ops offering, and that it is the only example of timed-exclusive content in Modern Warfare.

“You can play Spec Ops and every new bit of content we drop, day one. The only timed exclusivity is Survival,” he added.

Sony showcased a new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trailer during its State of Play broadcast on Tuesday evening. The game’s Open Beta recently wrapped up, and Activision says its was the largest of its kind in the franchise’s history.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is scheduled to ship for PS4, PC, and Xbox One on October 25.

Unlike last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Modern Warfare’s gritty reboot will include a full-fledged single-player campaign, which will see popular character Captain Price (now voiced by Barry Sloane) thrust back into action.
