Call of Duty sales beginning to slow?

Sales of Activision’s multi-million dollar selling Call of Duty franchise are apparently starting to falter, with Modern Warfare 3 sales behind those of its predecessor.

Specifically, Gamasutra reports that Macquarie Equities analysts have put MW3 sales 4.2 per cent lower than Call of Duty: Black Ops.

According to the company, sales of MW3 for the month of March 2012 reached only half that of its predecessor managed by March 2011. However, actual sales figures are not available for public consumption.

Call of Duty sales have been on the rise annually since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare arrived back in November 2007. Last year’s MW3 became the biggest-selling entertainment launch of all time, a feat achieved by every Call of Duty game since 2009.

Elsewhere, publisher Activision has also been making big bucks with its newly-launched Call of Duty Elite subscription service, which has drummed up 1.5 million members to date.

2012’s Call of Duty game has yet to be revealed, though Internet speculation suggests it will be a sequel to Black Ops handled by Treyarch.
