Legendary, the film production company behind some massive projects in recent years and upcoming ones such as Dune and Dune Part Two purchased the film and tv rights for the Street Fighter IP, and days later Capcom announced it would be collaborating on a live-action film with the studio.
Now it seems that the two entities have decided on who will direct this new film, Australian brothers Danny and Michael Philippou, who are in talks to direct the first project of this new partnership according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Michael and Danny Philippou are two young directors who’ve become the talk of Hollywood thanks to their film Talk To Me which premiered at the Sundance Festival.
The film is set to debut outside the festival this coming July 28, 2023, and it seems the buzz around their film got them in the door with Legendary and Capcom to secure a deal for what could be a new generation of Street Fighter films.
For now however as the team around the film will continue to slowly build over the next few years, Street Fighter 6 is due out this coming June 2, 2023, and it’ll be interesting to see if the latest entry has an effect on where the films story will take place in the franchise.
