Speaking during an interview with Eurogamer, Cliff Bleszinski, the creator of the original Gears of War, has revealed that he’s ‘thrilled’ to see the franchise make the jump to a PlayStation console for the first time, with the series having been exclusive to Xbox since its inception in November 2006.
“It doesn’t feel strange. I’m thrilled that more people are going to get to experience a big part of my legacy that I worked so hard on,” he commented. Bleszinski added that he’s “asked nearly every day on social media” about returning to the series he created, stating that “I’ve said it a thousand times I’m open to consult on any of it.”
His comments are not surprising, considering back in 2024 Bleszinski revealed he was more than happy for Gears of War to come to PlayStation after Microsoft announced plans to bring a number of its Xbox titles to other formats.

Blesinzki masterminded the original Gears of War with Epic Games, which was heavily influenced by the third-person perspective seen in Resident Evil 4. Following the original game, he also worked on Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3 as lead designer, before departing the studio in 2012.
Developed by The Coalition, Gears of War Reloaded is a spruced up version of the original 2006 cover-based shooter, and features a wealth of improvements for modern platforms. Among the highlights includes remastered textures, 4K assets, enhanced post-processing visual effects, support for 60 FPS during the campaign and 120 FPS for multiplayer, and 4K resolution among other features.
Gears of War Reloaded is scheduled to launch for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S on August 26, 2025.
