Control Resonant Influences Include X-Files, Neon Genesis Evangelion & More

Control Resonant developer Remedy Entertainment has revealed that the upcoming sequel proudly wears a lot of influences on its sleeves, including popular sci-fi franchise X-Files.

Speaking in a brief post on the game’s official social media account, Remedy stated that Control Resonant features a wealth of influences including Southern Reach, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and of course the aforementioned X-Files.

Control 2 Resonant is scheduled to launch during in 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and is the follow-up to 2019’s critically acclaimed sci-fi epic. The game is being co-financed by Annapurna Pictures, who is co-producing the project alongside Remedy.

Control Resonant follow Dylan Faden, who has been charged by the Federal Bureau of Control with combatting a mysterious cosmic entity, which is able to fundamentally alter the aspects of our reality. As such, Dylan must employ supernatural powers while navigating a warped version of Manhattan, exploring expansive areas of the metropolis that have been overrun by corrupting influences of the Hiss, Bold, and other paranatural threats.

Key to Dylan’s progress is the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon that can assume various deadly forms, allowing players to unleash bone-causing attacks with a two-handed hammer or slice and dice foes with deadly twin blades. Traversal meanwhile will see you grappling with gravity anomalies that distort vertical and horizontal planes, while players will sink their teeth into a comprehensive progression system that will define how Dylan adapts to emerging threats.
