Sony announced overnight that it had acquired a stake in the Fortnite developer in a $250 million deal, which is set to ‘deepen’ the partnership between both comapnies.
Epic Games hasn’t been shy about heaping praise on Sony’s next-generation console the past month or so. Recently, Nick Penwarden, VP of engineering for the Fortnite maker, described PS5 as a ‘masterpiece of systems design,’ while Sweeney labelled the upcoming system as ‘absolutely phenomenal.’
The PS5 is slated for release in holiday 2020, while Epic plans to migrate Fortnite to the Unreal Engine 5 in 2021 following a next-gen launch for the popular battle royale title.
