As well as getting a virtual pat on the back from all your teammates for being the hero on your squad who racked up the most points and kills in a Far Cry 3 multiplayer match, Ubisoft has introduced a satisfying reward for those who come out on top.
Players who earn the most team points – which can be achieved in a variety of ways from having a decent kill-to-death-ratio to healing players to capturing points on the map – will get to choose from one of two options at the end of each game: “punish” or “mercy.”
A cinematic kicks in and the top player gets to press the left trigger to “punish” or the right trigger for “mercy” and dish out the resulting act on the best player on the losing team – a bitter pill to swallow for the loser who tried his damned hardest.
At its most basic level, “punish” shows you dishing out a few punches to the enemy who is kneeling in front of you with his hands behind his back. Choose “Mercy” and you’ll raise the machete to an extremely worried looking opponent before cutting his rope free.
Show no mercy to the other team and you get to be the boss
The Chat channel will also be open during this scenario, giving players the opportunity to taunt the other team members before they make their decision. Ubisoft has not yet decided whether only the winning players audio channel will be open so that the other team can hear but not reply (that could be torturous for the loser but oh so satisfying for the winner), or whether both teams will be able to communicate at this point.
It’s a nice little extra reward on top of all the XP you earn for being the best player, and rather than becoming a repetitive way to end each game, players will get access to different types/more severe punishments as they level up. Though we’ve only seen the most basic of punishments, we assume that the machete is going to be used in a variety of grisly ways! A very nice incentive to encourage players to try their best.
Stay tuned for more Far Cry 3 news throughout the day.
