FIFA 22 Ultimate Team Keeps Controversial Loot Boxes, But Preview Packs Also Return

EA Sports has confirmed that loot boxes will be returning for FIFA 22 Ultimate Team, but this time around, there’s going to be preview packs available so you can actually see what you’re getting with your hard-earned cash.

Preview packs were implemented in FIFA 21 only a few months ago, after EA found itself under pressure from governments and gambling charities. This feature will return with FIFA 22 Ultimate, so, while loot boxes aren’t going anywhere, the developer is allowing you to see what you’re buying before you commit to a purchase.

For those unaware, these loot boxes can be purchased using FUT Coins or FIFA Points, the former being an in-game currency earned through playing FIFA 22 while the latter are acquired by spending real-life money.

Back in early August, EA said that its Ultimate Team preview packs had been ‘very well received,’ so it’s unsurprisingly to see them moving forward with the feature for FIFA 22.

Loot boxes have of course come under much scrutiny by the government and other avenues recently, although EA is adamant that its implementation of the lucrative feature is not gambling.

FIFA 22 is scheduled for release on October 1, 2021 for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. EA recently unveiled a list of the top-rated players for FIFA 22, which you can view here.
