Yoshinori Kitase also said that Cloud’s performance will differ from that of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, as they are essentially different characters.

A remake of Final Fantasy VII required substantial preparedness,” said Kitase-san. “The voice actors have almost finished voice recording of the main story. Fans may have the image of the Cloud from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, but since this is the ‘prime’ Cloud from before Advent Children, the performance may feel fresh.

Elsewhere, Kitase briefly mentioned the latest batch of artwork that was showcased last month. “I’ll leave the meaning of the Sephiroth that doesn’t exist in the original (the black wing?) to everyone’s imagination.”

Final Fantasy 7 Remake release date

Square Enix originally announced the Final Fantasy 7 Remake back at E3 2015 during Sony’s press conference, and later that year confirmed that the game would be split into multiple parts in order to retell the iconic story. However, the game’s director, Tetsuya Nomura, told Famitsu  a few weeks back that the game is still some ways off, putting a 2017 launch into question despite this year being the game’s 20th anniversary.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will adopt a more action-oriented battle system in comparison to the original PlayStation game, which utilised the old-school turn-based system. Square Enix is aiming for visuals on par with that of Advent Children, and has promised we’ll also see new areas that were not featured in the 1997 version.

Those of you who were fans of Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie will be pleased to learn that we’ll be finding out more about the AVALANCHE trio throughout the game.
