Final Fantasy VII Remake will not be built using Square Enix’s in-house Luminous engine, its director has said.
Speaking with Nova Crystallis at Gamescom 2015 this week, Hajime Tabata simply confirmed, “Final Fantasy 7 (Remake) is not planned to be made with that [Luminous]."
Tabata-san didn’t confirm what tech would be powering the hotly anticipated RPG remake, however.
Luminous was showcased via an impressive demo known as Agni’s Philosophy, although to date the only game to utilize the tech has been Final Fantasy XV. Kingdom Hearts III was originally powered by the engine, but later switched over to Unreal Engine 4.
Square Enix recently revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake’s combat will introduce dramatic changes, while still being recognisable to fans. The game was unveiled during Sony’s E3 2015 press event where it was confirmed the game would ship on PlayStation 4 first.
No release date has been announced, though a Sony ad has pencilled the remake in for a 2016 launch.
